It’s been suggested that typical players who don’t stick rigidly to basic strategy only achieve an RTP of around 97% – 98% (a house edge of 2-3%), depending on how well they play. In this case, if you’re allowed to by the rules of the blackjack variant you’re playing (which you are in Premium Blackjack), you should double, to make the most of your advantageous hand. Although the rules are simple to understand and the game straightforward to play, the best strategy to maximise your RTP and reduce the house edge is far from obvious. However, if their first two cards are an ace and a six (a soft 17), whether they have to hit or online casinos stand depends on the rules of the casino. Once all players have played their hands, the dealer plays their hand.

As you play blackjack, you may notice online casinos offer additional wagers in the game. These are generally blackjack games with worse odds for players. When presented with a pair (two cards of equal value), a player can split their hand and play it as two separate hands. The dealer (and other players) will then draw until all their hands are complete. Occasionally the dealer and a player will both have the same hand value in a blackjack game. If the dealer has any bust cards, the odds of them going over 21 are greater and players should play more conservatively to avoid busting themselves.

A common guideline is bringing at least 20x your average bet (e.g., $100 for $5 tables). Even casual errors — hitting a 12 against a dealer 6, or failing to double 11 against a dealer 5 — add meaningful percentage points to your losses over time. The dealer stands on all 17s (hard 17 and soft 17) and must hit on 16 or less. Dealer RulesThe dealer has no choices — they must follow fixed rules.

In New Jersey, an approved blackjack layout must contain designated wagering areas and display the applicable rules for blackjack payouts, dealer drawing procedures, and insurance payouts. One card is dealt to each wagered-on position clockwise from the dealer’s left, followed by one card to the dealer, followed by an additional card to each of the positions in play, followed by the dealer’s hole card if applicable. Dealers deal the cards from one or two handheld decks, from a dealer’s shoe or from a shuffling machine. If they do, they reveal it immediately, the hand ends, and the dealer takes all wagers whose hands are not also a blackjack. In jurisdictions allowing back betting, up to three players can be at each position.
